Family Fun at RRO

jr-RRO Fam fun 150 About 30 families joined RRO staff May 2 for Family Fun Night sponsored by RRO's Title I program and a Splash Nutrition Grant.

Famlies rotated between four stations featuring either a health message or an academic skill.  Students threw bean bag fruits at targets marked with numbers, calculated and graphed results.  Next, students built fresh fruit parfaits and sampled mystery foods in the cafeteria.  Black bean brownies? Mashed cauliflower?  The math mania station demonstrated easy to make math games.  Finally, families used a variety of musical instruments to add sound effects to a delightful story by Robert Munsch.

NBC Students Shine at Law Day

jr-law2012 250

Three NBC 8th graders were honored at the Muskegon County Bar Association's Law Day banquet May 4.  The contest required students to consider the question:  "Should schools intervene in cases of cyber-bullying when that behavior occurs off school grounds, and what role, if any, should the courts play, keeping in mind a citizen's rights under the first amendment?"  The students could respond to this question in a variety of formats: essay, poetry, video, music, art, etc.

The fourth place essay entry was awarded to Andrew Bobian.  For her video entry, Brandi Rice received third place. The winning essay entry belonged to NBC's Alexis Grimshaw.  These students received savings bonds and plaques honoring them for their outstanding efforts. Congratulations!
