Welcome to Montague High School

arrowATTENTION SENIORS!

Seniors (and parents of seniors) interested in continuing education after graduation should come to the MHS Library Monday, February 8, at 6:30 pm.  MHS Counselor Mary Spiwak, assisted by Bruce Wierda, Financial Aid Director at Muskegon Community College, offer a Financial Aid Workshop that will help families make college as affordable as possible.  The Workshop will discuss scholarships, loans, grants and above all help completing the FAFSA--the all-important Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  The Michigan deadline for filing the FAFSA is MARCH 1, so we encourage you to attend this Workshop.

MHS Strikes Red Gold

red gold

During the fall sports season, Red Gold banners were displayed at athletic events advertising Red Gold tomato products. This was a pilot project to see if there were ways to increase athletic revenues due to the severe budget cutbacks. During this process, we learned that Red Gold was also offerering a $5000 donation to any school who submitted Red Gold product labels or filled out 3x5 inch cards with the school name, address and zip code. MHS was nip and tuck with a large school in the metro GR area for several weeks. A concerted effort the last two weeks "paid off" as MHS was awarded a $5000 check from Red Gold representatives on January 29, 2010. Thanks to all who assisted MHS in earning this cash award. A special thanks goes out to parent Mrs. Jan Gowell who spearheaded this drive!

Parent Teacher Conferences Well Attended

Normally, the second round of parent/teacher conferences are sparsely attended. Not This year!  Thanks to all who braved the near zero wind chill temperatures and snow to visit with your child's teachers.  This was the last P/T conference scheduled for this school year.  If you would like to visit with a teacher, please use the school e-mail system or call the main office to get  in contact with your child's teachers.

 ACT/MME Coming Soon!

All juniors will be taking the state of Michigan mandated ACT/MME tests beginning on Tuesday, March 9.  That day is listed as a "no school" day for everyone but the junior class!  A letter was mailed home detailing the test to all junior parents.  We will also prep the students with test taking strategies as well as explain once again the importance of this college entrance examination.

School Wide Community Service Projects

The National Honor Society students at MHS kicked off the 2010 year with a renewed effort to involve every student in a community service project.  Each Academic Support Hour class has chosen a different way to get involved in the community.  Ms. Moreau, the NHS advisor urged the students to take on this responsibility and have they ever responded!  Some of the service projects are, Easter baskets for residents at a local nursing home, reading new books to students who are recovering from cancer treatments at DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, then donating the books to the children, roadside trash pick up, beach clean up and many more projects. Do you have a project that could be completed by our students?  If so, please notify the high school office.

We Need Your Help!

Meijer Community Rewards program is up and running!  All you need to do is use our organization code of 547914 each time you shop at Meijer's!  Meijer's donates a portion of the total sales back to Montague High School. We all eat and shop... well, at least most of us eat so write the number down and each time you shop at Meijer's (at any location state wide). Be sure to have the cashier add our number to the sale.  Each year, Meijer sends us a check based on the previous school year totals.  Thanks for helping us!

Buy Your Yearbook Online!

The deadline for ordering yearbooks via paper order forms has passed, but online ordering is available this year for the first time. The online price is $50, and name stamps are an option for an additional $10.  A credit card is required. This Yearbook will be all-color for the first time ever.  Deadline for online orders is April 1.
